Giants Win The Pennant

The Giants followed their regular season Summer League title with a sweep through the season-ending tournament. The Giants edged out the Red Sox, Dodgers and Cubs en route to the tournament title. The Giants combined record for the Summer was 13-2.

Pitching depth, solid defense and timely hitting were the keys to the Giants success. The team was led by three Major League players: Isaiah Evans, Trevor Reiff and Jake Shapiro. The three major leaguers served as tri-captains and played an important role in mentoring the younger players in sound fundamentals on the field as well as leadership off the field.

The Giants tournament win derived from a wealth of quality pitching from Trevor Reiff, Jake Shapiro, Andrew Modder, Jake Butler and a strong finish with Isaiah Evans' season-ending complete game win over the Cubs in the final. Two of the Giants tournament wins were come from behind efforts and in all three games our opponents challenged us to play at a higher level. Key contributors at the plate included some of the younger players who refined their batting skills as the season progressed: Trevor Weygandt, Jonas Weygandt, Seth Clemente, Jake Butler and Joey Shapiro. Trevor W. came around on a Jake Shapiro triple to score the game winning run against the Cubs.

Turning two double plays in the final game kept Isaiah's pitch count down and along with three perfect throws from catcher Jake Shapiro nailing three baserunners, enabled him to deliver a complete game. The Giants missed the one-two punch of Cade and Max McClellan at the end of the season along with the high on base percentage of Forrest Cobble. Pitcher and shortstop Reid Spears returned for the final game against the Cubs and contributed at the dish and in the field.

The coaching staff of the Giants: Jeff Shapiro, Joe Evans, Greg Kutvirt and Bryant Reiff enjoyed the entire journey from first practice through the final game. Thanks to everyone involved who made the Giants a summer league success.
