Local Boulder junior Mountain bike club, Boulder Junior Cycling A.K.A. “Boulder Devo” was among 13 regional athlete development programs to be recognized as a “Center of Excellence” by USA Cycling. The grants are awarded to programs which USA Cycling feels have the potential and ability to develop athletes into international-level competitors and are based on certain program criteria and performance results.Coached by Olympian and local cycling luminary, Ann Trombley, the program has had noted success. In 2007 two club members claimed the male and female Junior Colorado State Cross Country Championship. In 2008 the program was the top Mountain States Cup Junior Team and also boasted the female Colorado State Short Track Champion, and female MSC overall champion. The program also was proud to have a member attend the Mountain Bike World Championships in Val de Sole, Italy. This award is truly a “team effort” as it is based on several factors including the high quality of coaching and programming along with racer results. BMA members should feel proud to have participated in the success of the program, as "Boulder Devo" was the recipient of proceeds from the 2007 Spring Movie Fundraiser which funded the scholarship fund and helped offset a portion of training and racing expense. Boulder Junior Cycling is a program of The Boulder Valley Cycling Alliance whose mission is to promote youth cycling and create lifelong cyclists in the Boulder Valley.
The 2009 membership meeting will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 4, at The Trek Store in the BaseMar Center, Boulder. This is an opportunity for prospective members to hear about the program and meet the coaches as well as our current members. The team plans on racing the Mountain States Cup Series in 2009. The advanced group begins formal training in March and the U15 group runs April – August
